Keys locked inside the car — what not to do
Home-made methods break glass, bend doors and damage central locking.
Symptoms
- The key is visible inside the car
- Central locking engaged by itself
- The remote does not respond
- The spare key is far away
First check every door and the boot. Surprisingly often one of them was left unlocked.
Do not use wire, a ruler or a wedge between the door and the frame. Modern doors are full of cables, airbag sensors and central locking mechanisms. A bent door or a cracked window costs more than professional opening.
If the remote does not respond — usually a dead battery. Almost every car has a hidden mechanical key inside the remote and a physical lock on the front left door, sometimes under a cover.
If a child or an animal is inside and it is hot — call 112 immediately. Do not wait for anyone; in high temperatures minutes matter.
When you need a tow: if the car must be moved but cannot be unlocked, we transport it on a flatbed to your home or to a garage.
