The car will not start — battery, starter or fuel
The sound when you turn the key tells you the cause almost immediately.
Symptoms
- Only a click when turning the key
- The engine cranks slowly
- Complete silence, dashboard dead
- Cranks normally but will not fire
A click or slow cranking — almost always the battery. Check whether the terminals are loose or corroded; tightening them sometimes solves it.
Complete silence and a dead dashboard — a broken connection, a fully drained battery or a faulty starter.
Cranks normally but will not fire — the battery is fine here. The cause is fuel or ignition: no fuel, a blocked filter, a failed pump, spark plugs.
Important: if the battery drains again after starting, the alternator is at fault — the car will die again, probably at the worst moment.
When you need a tow: when the car will not start after a jump attempt, when the starter is silent, or when you are on a busy road. We transport the car to a garage of your choice.
