The engine light came on — when it is urgent
Yellow and steady means "check soon". Flashing means "stop now" — the difference costs a catalytic converter.
Symptoms
- The light is flashing
- The engine runs unevenly
- Loss of power
- Smell of fuel or unusual smoke
Steady yellow light: you can continue carefully to a garage. Most often it is a lambda sensor, a sender, or a loose fuel cap.
Flashing light: a misfire. Unburnt fuel reaches the exhaust and melts the catalytic converter within minutes — a repair worth thousands. Stop and switch off the engine.
Light plus loss of power ("limp mode") — the car is limiting itself for protection. Pushing on home almost always costs more.
When you need a tow: with a flashing light, in limp mode, or if smoke, noise or smell join the light. We take the car to a garage of your choice.
